We have all been in a position where we have a deadline looming around the corner, but we find ourselves doing things unrelated to the work at hand. Instead of getting down to the work we should be doing, we become engaged in other miscellaneous activities such as watching movies, surfing blogs, checking emails, social media and even sleeping. That state where you know you should be working but you do not feel like doing anything.

We are all familiar with procrastination. We all do it at some point in our lives; we waste our free time and put off vital tasks until it’s too late, after which we then wish that we had used our time more wisely. It may seem like a natural thing to do. It is a bad habit that has chronic procrastinators who spend years of their lives looped in its cycle; putting things off, delaying, hiding from work, slacking and rushing around when it’s too late. It stops us from achieving the best things in life.

We all can therefore see and know that procrastination is a harmful habit that we should strive to overcome every step of the way. You should not beat yourself up if this is something you have struggled with, as I mentioned earlier, we all fall victim. The question, therefore, is how we can beat this habit? Worry not. 1. Break down your work into little steps.

To some extent, procrastination is a mental game. The reason we do it is that we subconsciously find the work we are supposed to do too overwhelming. For this reason, break down your work into small manageable bits and focus on one bit at a time. If you still find yourself carrying on with the habit, break your work even further. Go as far as you need to get to the point where you are looking forward to working.

For instance, say you are doing a project of some sort. Instead of trying to do everything at ones, break down your work into small bits and work on each one at a time.
