In sales companies for examples, they offer a wide range of benefits to potential customers when they first meet them, in an effort to create that need in the person. They may offer their new client alcohol before they begin their meeting or they might even have the meeting over dinner – paid for by the salesman of course!

On the other hand, if the person invests in you, that need does not exist within them and they feel a closer connection to you, by investing in you. If you are in a bar and somebody buys you a drink, then they are much less likely to walk away as they feel they are investing in you and will want to realize that it was a good investment and they made a good choice.

Some women are drawn to bad boys and they invest their whole lives trying to change them and no matter how badly treated they are by him, they will not walk away because if they do they will feel like they have failed and wasted perhaps years of their life.
